Welcome to Katy's Trailblazing Challenge page!
My name is Katy Sypher-Piper and I am proud wish mom of 4year old bright little Ava. Her wish was granted in August of last year; Ava wished to meet Blippi. He is an educational YouTube star. She LOVES his song "Going to the Zoo". Her wish came true when we spent the day with Blippi at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, WA. Here is a blog post from Blippi's website: https://blippi.com/blogs/news/1
I’m continuing my mission to share our story and help fundraise for children with critical illnesses by taking part in the Trailblaze Challenge for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. I will hike 26.2 miles in one grueling day through Bear Mountain State Park in NY and and need to raise at least $2500. although I hope to exceed that!

WHY I WILL HIKE
-I will hike to increase awareness of Make-A-Wish’s mission, because their mission is now mine too
-I will hike because I worked with hundreds of families as a social worker before Ava was born that needed this experience, and I wish I had known to refer them
-I will hike because I can now tell parents like us that there is one more place that could really make a difference, in Make-A-Wish, just take the chance to apply
-I will hike 26.2 miles because Ava's life threatening critical illnesses have commanded her to endure and persevere almost always with a smile on her beautiful little face in her own powerful way, so I can choose to do this hike by choice with her gleeful encouragement
-I will hike 26.2 miles because Ava’s wish process has helped her heal and have a quality of life I didn’t think was possible
-I will hike because Silvia, Social Worker extrodinarie from Yale New Haven took the chance to nominate Ava and I hope she and other social workers continue to refer kids to MAW
-I will hike because Dr. Salazar approved Ava. Immunology/Infectious Diseases and Aerodigestive teams at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center are the best and I hope they keep referring and approving children who need wishes
-I will hike because our Clinton Volunteer Firefighters and Chips Pub III worked tirelessly to raise the $10,000 to sponsor Ava’s Wish to meet Blippi
-I will hike because our Clinton firefighters volunteer to train and save lives in our communities every single day, and they went WAY above and beyond by sponsoring an entire wish and I hope that will continue
-I will hike because Blippi and his team, and staff at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle,WA went above and beyond to make my little girls Wish come true
- I will hike because Blippi has already made another child’s wish come true
-I will hike because the Make-A-Wish experience helped to save and strengthen our marriage by reminding us family is first and that every moment counts, and to live with as much joy in the moment as possible
-I will hike because I am a better, stronger person than I was a year ago
-I will hike because I am an alcoholic and Make-A-Wish helped me understand and believe that my family and I deserve to be happy and that we are worthy
-I will hike because 70% of wishes involve travel and the most volunerable are often too overwhelmed, too scared, too strapped for cash, too exhausted to even imagine planning a vacation
-I will hike because Make-A-Wish gave us a card with spending money on it and gave us the flexibilty to spluge
-I WILL HIKE 26.2 MILES BECAUSE WISHES CAN HEAL
-I will hike because Ava’s very best CCMC friend Dominic was just approved to have his Wish granted, and I can’t wait to see the impact that his one true wish will have on him and his family, and to keep making Wishes come true, Make-A-Wish Connecticut needs our help! #WishItForward
You CAN help too!
This will be a big undertaking, but I know I can do it. The more support I have, the more visiability we can raise that wishes can provide memories that last a lifetime and HEAL, the more funds we raise, the more it will motivate me to the finish, and come closer to bringing hope, strength, and joy to the most volunerable children and families right here in Connecticut.
I need fellow hikers to join us (no experience necessary there is time to train), sponsors to help me reach my goal, a vocal cheering section, and social media savvy friends who can help me share this campaign far and wide.
