26 Mile Hike to benefit Make-A-Wish Connecticut
Thank you for visiting my personal page and for considering donating to this wonderful cause! If you're wondering why I signed on to hike 26 miles (a distance I said I'd never do) it was for a few reasons.
1.) I just can't pass up a good fitness challenge. To put it simply, I love having goals. I love having something positive to work towards and an end goal to focus my energy on. A couple years ago I ran a half marathon- a goal I was very proud of achieving and honestly didn't think I would be able to complete. The training process taught me a lot about myself and about the power of stepping out of your comfort zone. I was always curious about getting more mileage in but actually running a full marathon didn't feel like the perfect fit for me. I have however recently found a new love for hiking and find that spending time in the woods and mountains brings me a sense of peace and calm that's unlike any other. When I heard about this challenge from a friend and former coworker of mine, it seemed like one of those "meant to be" kind of scenarios. I love the idea of hiking my way through a marathon and shifting my focus towards strength and endurance.
2.) I love that I'm hiking to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I will be hiking 26 miles to raise both money and awareness for Make-A-Wish Connecticut- an organization that grants the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions. I work as a nurse in a Medical ICU. Though I work in the adult population I still witness every day the devastating impact that critical illness can have on entire families. This organization makes such a positive difference in the lives of children and their families and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to support this cause. This hike will be a big undertaking. Please know that your donations will not only motivate me to the finish but will help bring hope, strength and joy to the families Make-A-Wish Connecticut serves.
